An Apex?

Orange Falling II

Every generation of mankind believes that they stand on the burning edge of changing times. Just a few days ago I mentioned donating to a site that collects the sum of human knowledge. Its creation has become one of those milestones of life: Before it and after it. I poked fun at seeing technology evolve, never once thinking about what would we uncover next in the chain of innovations.

Then while reading the internet, I was directed to this video. I updated my phone, opened google, and spoke:

"Cooking with Curry"

And it told me how to do just that. Smiling, I placed my head in my hand, and pondered what I had just seen.

Before this, and after this.

Some friends and I have been engaged in developing an application for the iPhone. The development is bigger than most of my side projects, as not only is a foreign platform being used, but it's developed in a completely new language to me. Working on my homework, a problem was encountered regarding a semantic detail in the language. A query directed towards good ol'google yielded a page that contained exactly the information that was needed.

Already, flashes of the future where I'm hunchbacked in my Lay-Z-Boy talking to the whipper snappers about being around before Wikipedia flash through my mind.

"Grandpa, how did you ever learn about anything without the internet?"

"Well, you see, back in my day, we used to have a series of books, each for another letter, that contained the information. We needed to look it up. Because everything was in books, current events were never to be found, so you had to buy newer and newer editions of the set of books."

"Oh, Grandpa, that's crazy"

For the technocratic geeks of the internet, Wikipedia has been there to supply information, settle bets and waste time. Quite often this service is taken for granted, although annually the foundation does seek donations to help the cause. If you've made use of the service, please dontate to the foundation by clicking on the icon below. Even if you donate a fraction the cost of a new set of tree carcass encyclopedias, it will help to keep this service awesome service going.

October flashed by, and one of my favorite days of the year always finishes it off. I'm a little late, but: Happy Hallowe'en
